GREAT sounding Vintage 4 string Russian DOMRA folk instrument made in Shikhovo
Up for sale is a GREAT sounding, highest grade, vintage four-string Domra instrument with flame maple back. The instrument was made in the 1980s and is in fantastic condition despite its old age!! It was recently restored, re-fretted, re-lacquered, and refinished by Zubchenko who is one of the leading luthiers from the Tchaikovsky factory. This is a quality instrument and plays as good (if not better) than modern high end 4 string domras out there.
This domra has specific sandwich neck/ body construction and some other signs that clearly show that it was made by Shikhovo luthiers of those times. Same thing Zubchenko told me after he inspected this instrument. We are almost sure that it was made by Savelyev Senior or Valeulin Senior due to its neck construction and "pantzir" shape.
But why does it have no luthier label?
The reason is - back is Soviet times, there was a control for all produced instruments by supervisory authorities. If the luthier wanted to earn more money - he could build "an extra" instrument and sell it directly to the buyer but in this case, he was breaking the law. So they didn't put any labels or stamps to those "extra" instruments for safety reasons.
The sound of the Domra is just great - bright, loud, full, and open at the same time, with lush overtones and lots of low end on the lowest 4th string.
The construction is rock solid - there are no "breathing" cracks, constructively it's very tight built and you will feel the quality right at the moment when you take it in your hands. The woods used are - spruce top, highly maple back. The neck is a combination of woods and the highest quality possible.
You can definitely perform as a solo artist with this domra or in the orchestra.
The instrument is 100% ready to play, has low action strings, and does not demand any investments.
This instrument was also checked by maestro Alexander Tsygankov himself (my dad, who is People's Artist of the Russian Federation and a professor at Gnesin's Academy of Music).
My dad is always auditioning our instruments prior to we put it on sale and I'm very picky when it comes to construction quality as I was dealing with the production of boutique custom electric guitars for all of my life. So you get that double control on our side.
Send me a message if you have any questions about this beautiful Domra. The case is not included in an auction but I'll pack very well. If you'd like a hard case - I can get you a high-quality AMC case at manufacturers' price of 150$.
